For foodservice use we use only a Gray FDA approved powder.  This powder is applied with an electrostatic spray gun.  A thin layer of the “plastic” powder is applied to the item and then baked on at a high temp.  This causes the powder to harden into a very tough plastic coating.  It completely covers the surface and makes for easy cleaning.
